A Rough Day

So, it was a rough day around here on Friday...Xander got to go to the vet and get "tutored" (the only way I refer to it ever since that great Gary Larson Farside cartoon with the dog in the car yelling out the window to the dog in the yard: "Ha Ha, I'm going to get tutored!"). Our vets are wonderful and he did just fine.
Yesterday when he wasn't eating (to make up for lost time), there was a lot of sleeping. Have I mentioned how cute he is sleeping? Oh, I have? Well, he is:
Note the spread of those back toes!

Friday evening after we got home and he was allowed a little bit of canned food and formula (yes, I know he no longer needs formula as far as being too little to eat kitten chow...but we still have lots thanks to his Auntie vet....and he *really* likes it!) he decided he'd crawl back in the soft carrier :D I think it's nice that he doesn't have bad associations with the carrier...again, thanks to his Auntie vet who carted him around and doted on him in the beginning.

Meanwhile, Gwyn had a rough day. When I had Xander in the carrier and was getting ready to walk out the door Friday morning, Gwyn laid down right in front of the door as if to block me from taking her kitten. Maybe I was just anthropomorphizing (brownie points for big words before 2nd cup of coffee?). Except I know she had a rough day because Friday night when I went to put her in her crate this is what all I took out of it that was buried in her blankets:
Actually, that's not entirely true. (Turn away now if you're squeamish!)...The two LoML socks and the two bits of wet, nasty material that were formerly the fake fur on a cat mouse toy were in the crate...the hard plastic shell of the fake mouse was actually recovered earlier in the day by LoML from a spot of Gwyn throw-up. Ah, the joys of parenthood! Don't worry. She was fine once her kitten got home. All is right in her world again.
And one more sleepy shot to share with you...and again I tell you that I did not pose this:

Beauty All Around

No time to natter on as I love to do...I live in a beautiful area. They're working on the bridge that leads to the island I live on...it's one-lane right now and so most days there's a wait at a temporary stop light...shot this out the car window the other morning...
On another note: am *loving* the Moby Dick Big Read (see Sep. 20 post for explanation)...more on that later too.

Be safe! It's a big world out there!!

Homage to Oz

If imitation is the greatest form of flattery, how's this for an homage?

Happy Birthday Gwyneth!!!

That's right...you may think today is special because it's the autumnal equinox. But really it's special because it's Gwyn's birthday! She's four. Maybe. When she was playing this morning I asked her if she wasn't just two or so :D We do love her. I asked her this week what in the world one gets a greyhound who has everything...including a kitten! We didn't really come up with a good answer. We're just treating her like royalty today. (As opposed to all those other days....) She doesn't know it, but we'll break out a peanut butter Frosty Paws tonight. Happy Birthday you sweet girl!

Moby Dick Big Read

In the realm of spare time...I'm in the negative right now. Adding anything to my schedule/to-do list is clearly a sign of insanity (and there are already so many signs I don't think any more are necessary for a diagnosis!). But I was listening to NPR's "All Things Considered"...because, well, sometimes, but not often, I like to consider things...and I considered this: the Moby Dick Big Read

Go check out the website. The premise is that every day from now into January you can download (for free) one chapter of Moby Dick. Each will be read by different people. The biggest hook for me was the fact that Tilda Swinton reads the first chapter. I could listen to her read her grocery list :D

While I *love* to read and fervently wish someone would pay me a decent salary to do nothing but read novels (a lament for another day), I confess that I have never read Moby Dick. I'm also not much for audiobooks...something to do with the fact that I truly need the visual along with the audio, I have memory problems and need to be able to look back a few pages, and/or I'm too easily distracted and have to keep backing up...but I can't resist trying this. I have a decent amount of solo drive time that I can try it out. Will keep you posted.

Computers!

Gotta' love 'em...except when you feel like smashing them to bits! Actually, my current issues are with my wireless network & my internet service provider...hence the commandeering of LoML's machine again and the shameful lack of posting of late...Anyroo:
More box cuteness

Chillin' wit my dawg!

Learning from the mistress of hound-food stealing

Always ready to roll!

Best kind of self-portrait...the kind that emphasizes the hound

Welcome to Monday

Yep. Never a dull moment around here. Hijacked LoML's computer to post this a.m. 'coz mine's decided it doesn't want to connect to our wifi any more. :::sigh::: At any rate, here's just some of the extreme cuteness that abounds in our house:

Series one: This is not from the same video I posted two weeks ago...this kinda' play is pretty much a daily occurrence.

I'm really not sure what to do with him!

Note the hound teeth are NOT intimidating the kitten

Series two:  This is how the kitties & I watched tv in bed the other night :D
Series three:  Xander really likes the feather bird at the top of the scratching thingy that hangs on the closet door. This is his approach to getting it.

Series four:  When you play hard, you sleep hard!
Series five:  You might think this is a box for cd/dvd cases...you'd be wrong. It's a kitten box.

Can we keep him?

It's also nutritious!
Yes, I do realize that "series" generally implies more than one item in each grouping...but what do you expect?! It's early on a Monday morning, I'm still on my first cup of coffee, and I've hijacked LoML's computer and his keyboard really does not have the same feel as mine! Consider yourselves lucky I got a posting done at all!

Back to be a servant to demanding kittens. Later...

Wordless Thursday

('coz time's just not at an excess right now!)
Why, no, I don't know how your shoe got in my cube!

Objects in picture are not as close as they appear

Would you like an extreme close-up of me???

Love my greyhounds..

..live or statuary!
