Is That You, Peter Rabbit?

Look closely, that's the barn bunny my friend's daughter is trying to get close to. In the top photo he's right behind the fence post that's in the center of the shot. In the second he's mid-way between the two posts on the left-hand side of the picture.

Zoomies and Color Boost

I love that my Brit' hound friend refers to the wild running around of her hound as "zoomies." Perfect description! Thanks to the sport continuous mode on my Nikon I am able to capture some great shots with one hand and throw the Kong Frisbee with the other (admittedly not the best throws...but they rarely are!).

Built for speed and ready to launch!
Generally speaking, about the only editing I do of my shots before posting is to crop extraneous background out and to reduce the file size for ease of uploading. I know there's great software out there for amazing editing, but I'm fundamentally lazy (shocking, but true) and would rather get a good shot to start with and not spend a lot of time (time that I'm woefully lacking) messing with fine-tuning on the computer. However this weekend I did start playing with the "color boost" setting on my Nikon software. I was impressed. These are the exact same shots as above except for that one change. Pretty cool, eh? It actually looks like we have lush grass in our backyard. I'm thinking that's way easier than actually planting new grass :D

My latest favorite shot

Here's a few more examples...without color boost:

The Money Shot

Well, I was very pleased to get those once-in-a-lifetime shots of the baby birds the other day...and the experience of watching--and listening--to them coming along has been fabulous. (They're *so* noisy when mom or dad draw near with food!) But it was my friend who got the "money shot." I like this one a lot...you can really see how the parents hang on to the side of the tree and how far baby will hang out of the hole. You can also see that they've grown so fast that only one baby can fit in the hole at a time!
Hey! Come back! But I'm still hungry!!!
But take a look at this:

UPDATE/DISCLAIMER:BASED ON COMMENTS, I WANTED TO BE CLEAR THAT MY FRIEND TOOK BOTH OF THE ABOVE SHOTS! BUT I WAS STILL HAPPY TO BE AROUND TO OBSERVE THESE GUYS.

An Amateur Photographer's Triumph

So a while back I did this post telling you about some birds around the barn: Pileated Woodpecker They're really fascinating birds. There is a couple that have made a nest and hatched some babies. Mo's 'mom' got these fabulous pictures the other day:
Above is one of the adults with wings spread as it was going after a squirrel. Below is a baby hanging out of the nest, ready for mom or dad to come feed him.

Then yesterday I finally got a chance to get some pix of my own. Imagine our excitement when we realized there were two babies in the nest!

By Request

There's been a recent request for pix of Willow and Xander. I'm sorry I've been neglecting my blogging duties. It's still pretty wacky around here. Mo's back to chemo three times a day...will try to catch you up this weekend. For now, a few pix...please don't tell Willow that the only picture I have handy doesn't include her head! This was taken one night when I was lying on the bed watching tv (it's on the wall above the chest of drawers) and the kittehs decided to join me. But Xander couldn't leave Willow alone.

Xander's lying on what was formerly a box...now just a ribbon...I ended up taking it away from him after he tried to eat it.
Sleepy boy! :D
This is the pose Xander ended up in one day when he was following me, but gave out!

Sammy Love

The highlight of any walk is getting to see our dear, sweet Sammy...on a recent walk we saw him waiting for us...in the road!

I believe he was as happy to see us as we were to see him! :D
