Independence

There's nothing quite like the sight of the Shackleford horses grazing in the marsh. While they're feral, you can approach fairly close to them, especially if you're quiet.

I was using some zoom here, but we were still pretty close to them. We were trying to get a better look at the little one lying down.
That white-blond mane & tail was gorgeous! Caught in the act of standing. ;D
He (or she?--we're not that close) had a bit of a Rastafarian thing going...oh my, that mane is something!
Scratching an itch:

Happy Independence Day

Let's all spend a few minutes today in contemplation of what a great country we live in and be thankful for all the men and women who have sacrificed so much to ensure we have the liberty we have.

Have a terrific 4th of July...and be safe!

To Protect and Serve

This is a law enforcement canine in my local area. He's here to protect and serve. But he's also a good boy! And handsome!!! His handler told him to sit for me to snap some pix, and just look at that concentration.Note the tongue starting to loll...
Good grief! Will you just look at that tongue! He's a sweet boy too.
Coming soon: Some action pix of law enforcement K-9's doing their thing.

Tory! Tory!

More Tory, the kitten shots. I took about 10 for every 1 that came out that wasn't a complete blur. This little girl is busy, busy, busy. About ten nanoseconds after racing up the stairs and about 2 nanoseconds before racing back down them, I caught this shot:
Jumping in and out of the laundry basket is a good game, as is attacking people-fingers thru' the slats.
She ran so much she got very thirsty.
Note the drop of water hanging off her chin...she was done drinking and ready to play some more.

Daylilies & Electrician's Helper

While I can't compete with my good friend at Goblins in my Garden, (in the categories of flower photography, garden growing, or plant identification!), I thought I'd share some pix of some of my daylilies. I have no idea what kind they are...I just like them.

I love when my camera freaks out on the settings when I get too close and I end up with a picture like this:
And here's what happens when the dog "helps" the electrician a little too much while he's marking things with a Sharpie. I was right there when I heard him draw in a breath and then confess, "I marked your dog". Bwahahahaha. That was one evening earlier this week and the permanent ink has already worn off. I told the guy that the least he could do if he was going to draw on my dog was to give him a mustache!

More Kitten & Beach Pix

Kittens love to bite ;D It's what they do. It's how they roll. How about a few footprints in the sand this morning?

I just love watching the waves crash on the beach; the pattern of the water as it ebbs and flows over sand.

Kitten Cuteness

How can something this size (demonstrated gracefully by Oz)......start out this size:
Will you look at how cute that face is? Okay, okay...none of the following shots are focused. It's because she wasn't into posing, she was into purring and playing and running about. I actually took the first one upside down while she was in my lap ;D

Is there anything cuter than a little kitten bouncing sideways into an attack?
She's getting ready to pounce my fingers.

A Good Boy

I stopped by the house of one of my bros'n'law & sis'n'law to meet their new kitten. But first, I had to speak to Beau. He's a good boy. A really good boy. Look at him sitting and looking at me so seriously. "What can I do for you, Aunt Kat?"And then I told him what a good boy he is...and just look at the smile that breaks out:

And then he wanted to engage me in a game of catch. Hey! The gatorade bottle was handy!

Goat Invasion!

So, Solana was just trying to enjoy her supper when suddenly her pasture was invaded by goats! This is actually a common occurrence...the goats are let loose to forage for a few hours every day. They love going in and out of the pastures with the horses. Solana sometimes feigns annoyance (note the pinned ears) but she's actually quite good with them.
Tilly-who has *no* *fear* of anything-had to run right up to Solana and then check out the food bowl ;D
The kids are difficult to shoot in focus as they're moving so fast!
They're having a marvelous time playing with each other. Note the boys have the hair down their backs standing up! Tee hee. There was also much running about wide open, but I couldn't catch that at all.
