Close-ups

Had some fun shooting some close-ups around the yard this past weekend.

Okay, this was a "zoom" not a close-up...but this little fella' was cute!

Keeping the Watch

I've been explaining about the canine/feline homeland security system. But it has come to my attention that there are occasions where neither hound nor feline are available to keep the watch. Apparently on such rare occasions it is acceptable to turn to a fox substitute.
This is Gwyn's beloved fox toy (which looks suspiciously like Xander when it's sprawled on the floor). We did not stage this shot. Most days when I return to the house I check the sliding glass door to see who's keeping watch. This is exactly what I found the other day :D

Living in the Moment

Today I am going to stop and smell the flowers :D
Dogs teach us so much about what's really important!

Mom & Dad's cats

I've introduced you to the 'rents' cats before...Trouble, the older male who once lived under our deck as a kitten and Princess, the younger female who was introduced to us by the same wonderful vet friend who placed Xander with us. They've been through the wild, chase-each-other, pretend-to-be-mortal-enemies thing...but as I've said before, Trouble's tough-guy act doesn't fool me! Thanks to Mom for the pix!

Rollin on Duty

I've told you before about the feline portion of the homeland security detail...while the Orange Menace is frequently on duty, he is sometimes distracted by approaching staff and resorts to displays of cuteness:

Course, I guess it's better than sleeping on duty:

A few random pix of Gwyn and flowers :D

Barn Cat

It's important when you're on duty to get a high vantage point from which to survey your domain. Sadie likes to get up on the sloped roof of the feed room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On another note: I'm open to suggestions here. What do you do when your older cat decides to wake you up every day (night!) at approximately 4:00 a.m. to inform you that she's *starving*...but there's food in her bowl! (Willow is our diabetic-in-remission girl...all her life she has had to be meal-fed because she would overeat, but has been insulin-free for almost a year now. I've started letting her eat as much as she wants because her sugar continues to be in the low normal range.) It appears she is only able to eat it if one of us gets up to rub her as she eats. :P
Garden Update
I promised to at least try to do better this year keeping you updated on the garden. These pix were from about a week to ten days ago.
The corn is starting to come up nicely here...it's even higher now.
We have lettuce that needs to be eaten. Ready for those summer salads :D
No ripe tomatoes yet, but soon...we have "regular" size, romas, and cherry tomatoes.
The sugar-snap peas are going like gangbusters and we've eaten them twice for supper already!
This is the first year we've tried corn...It sure looks lovely and little ears are starting to form.
This little kitty guards the railing.
King Xander the Mad
Another of The Orange Menace's nicknames. Sure, he looks fine in the above, but this one:
He's sitting on the bowflex seat talking to the light reflections from Gwyn's water bowl that are dancing on the ceiling.
