Cats' Eyes

I frequently wonder what goes on behind them.

These two fine specimens rule the roost at my parents' house.

What the Cats are Up to

Sorry dogs. It's time to peek in at a typical day for the cats.
 It's a rough life...

Happy Birthday, Princess!

Hard to believe that Mom's "little one" is three!
These were taken when she first came home....busy exploring...

Trouble wasn't so sure he wanted a kitten..
But eventually he warmed up to the idea...

It's a 3-Cat Day

(As opposed to a 3-dog night!) Note that there's really not much size difference...except that it won't be long before Willow's the smallest! And, yes, Spike's tail is frequently that puffed--even when he's not doing anything in particular! We've started referring to him as the snow leopard!

Kitteh Sleepiness

Sorry I've been delinquent for a few days...we went out of town for the weekend (rested up and caught up with some dear friends) and also work has been particularly wide-open. For today's entertainment I share some pix of kitteh sleepy poses. You'll recall that I've always maintained that Xander sleeps well. He still does. But so does so Spike!

They're pose-able when they're little!
Willow isn't sleeping just yet, but she's divalicious nonetheless!

Beware the Cat's Ire!

It's like "Wild Kingdom" around here! Gwyn and I were walking the other day. I find myself consistently explaining to people the biggest difference (to me) about living with a sighthound is understanding things like the fact that a grey who has an indoor cat at home that is respected will still go after a cat outside. It's just a different beast and is fair game to the sighthound brain. So it's not uncommon for Gwyn to perk up when we see a cat on one of our walks.
Initially we thought it was just one cat lying at the edge of the road. Then we realized there was another cat in the ditch.
While I wasn't able to snap a picture, I quickly realized the cats were stalking a squirrel (or two) that was in the yard...as Gwyn and I drew closer, the squirrel(s) took off.....And then...the glaring began! The one cat who'd been closest to catchong a squirrel was NOT happy with us!

I guess that's where the term "glaring" of cats came from.
Glaring of cats; a company of cats very uncertain of each other.

Wil'

My dear, sweet Willow! She needed a little face time. She's such a darling girl and so put upon! She doesn't complain that the goofy hound and The Orange Menace monopolize the blog! But she thinks it would be nice if you remember she's here. Looking divalicious. And maybe you could send some noms!

Mom & Dad's cats

I've introduced you to the 'rents' cats before...Trouble, the older male who once lived under our deck as a kitten and Princess, the younger female who was introduced to us by the same wonderful vet friend who placed Xander with us. They've been through the wild, chase-each-other, pretend-to-be-mortal-enemies thing...but as I've said before, Trouble's tough-guy act doesn't fool me! Thanks to Mom for the pix!

Happy Birthday Willow!

Our sweet Willow turns 13 today!! She and her dear brother Oz, who died in July, came to live with us when they were six weeks old. They were so adorable :D
Willow on left, Oz on right

Oz! You got somethin beside you! Don't worry, I'll get it!!!

I bitez your head!
This next one was taken the night we brought them home, or the next day. The two of them together barely covered LoML's elbow! They were virtually indistinguishable but for the dark patches on their heads. Oz's was dark grey and made a "V", while Willow's was dark brown and was a "slash" mark. Over the years, the marks faded away completely....

Willow's our diabetic girl...well, at least she was diabetic...it's in remission right now (though I'm not sure that's the correct medical terminology). She was diagnosed when she was 2 years old. She was insulin dependent for the next 10 years, requiring shots twice daily. Sometime this past year...after we lost Oz maybe...her metabolism changed (?) and she no longer needs insulin! I continue to monitor her glucose levels and my vet tells me that there may come a time when we'll have to start it again, but so far, so good.

I believe Willow misses her dear, sweet brother...as we do....but Xander, a/k/a The Orange Menace, has kept her quite busy! :D He's ruthless as kittens can be, and takes every opportunity to leap on her, pin her down, and bite her neck (unless it's one of those times when he thinks he should lick her...which she never seems to appreciate since he does it while pinning her down). She's lost weight as she's now getting much more exercise than she was there for awhile. While she channels her evil alter ego when she has to go the vet's (can you blame her since her early experiences consisted of having to have blood draws every couple of hours?) she is one of the sweetest cats I've ever known. Another interesting fact is that she's decided it's time now to move to daylight savings time. :D She's my furry alarm clock. While she will progress to more attention-demanding tactics if I don't respond, she always starts out just by sitting by my head and purring. Loudly. :D

Happy Birthday girl!!!

The Art of Sleeping

No major spoilers here...We watched "Battleship" this weekend (which I enjoyed...it's not a high-brow make-you-think-about-important-issues kinda' flick, but it has lots of action *and* Liam Neeson) and there was a reference to "The Art of War". And, so, I give you "The Art of Sleeping":

They're still not sleeping together as in touching...but they're getting closer:

And, while this isn't a sleeping shot, it's still doggone cute!
